Mosquitoes are one of the most dangerous insects present on Earth. Many dangerous diseases are caused due to mosquito bites. You need to be aware of mosquitoes in the areas surrounding you. Stagnant water and dense bushy areas are more prone to dangerous mosquitoes.

If you are fond of gardening then you should be very careful with mosquitoes also. But there is a solution to this problem also. Many beautiful plants have the property to repel mosquitoes. So you can grow such plants in your garden in abundance so that you can keep away the threat of mosquitoes.

 

Rosemary Plant

The most common mosquito repellant plant is the Rosemary. Rosemary oil is the one of the best mosquito repellants. This plant grows well in hot and dry weather. Its leaves are small and needle like. Apart from the ability to act as mosquito repellent, rosemary is also used in many cuisines.

 

Citronella Grass Plant

Citronella Grass is another mosquito repelling plant. The citronella oil is used as a mosquito repellent. The candles and lanterns made out of this oil can be used in your homes or yards to prevent mosquitoes from entering the premises. This grass grows to a height of approximately six feet and this is the reason why it is not commonly grown in the gardens meant for houses.

 

Neem Plant

A very effective and good mosquito repellent is Neem. Many of the people burn Neem leaves and use the smoke for repelling mosquitoes. Even diseases like malaria are said to be cured with the help of Neem oil. Neem oil is used in lanterns to keep away mosquitoes.

Marigold Plant

Marigold is also a mosquito repellant plant. The peculiar fragrance of the marigold plant keeps mosquitoes away. Not only mosquitoes but other insects which tend to be harmful for the vegetables and other plants can be repelled with the help of marigold plant. Marigold is an annual plant.

 

Catnip Plant

Catnip plant has the properties of a mosquito repellent. This plant is commonly known for its property to attract cats. Termites, cockroaches and mosquitoes can be repelled using the catnip oil. Catnip is a plant which is commonly found in Europe. From Europe catnip is exported to many other countries like the United States.

 

Lemon Grass

Lemon Grass is one of the plants used as a mosquito repellent. The oil extracted from the lemon grass acts as an effective mosquito repellent. The fragrance of lemongrass prevents mosquitoes to stay away from it; hence it is used as a mosquito repellant.

 

Basil Plant

An annual herb and a plant which is used widely for its mosquito repellant properties is Basil. Apart from its culinary usage one of the usages is as a mosquito repellant. It is cultivated widely in many parts of India.

 

All the herbs mentioned above have powerful properties which will help repel mosquitoes and other insects as well. You can plant them in your back yards or in your gardens and prevent insects from entering into your house premises. If you aren’t willing to plant them, then you can use products containing the extracts of these herbs as one of the ingredient to keep away mosquitoes.
